A Day At Ubuntu Eco Gardens: Trees, Goats & Getting To Know Our Future Community

On 14 August 2026, the Ubuntu Eco Gardens team made a trip to the Phase One development with a simple mission: plant trees and continue bringing our vision for the community to life.
Our plan was to continue the tree planting that our CEO and Founder, Kayode, had started the previous week. One of our goals is to line the entrance road with beautiful trees, creating a greener, more private, and welcoming approach to the development.
However, when we arrived, we quickly discovered that our young trees had already attracted some rather enthusiastic visitors. The local goats had clearly taken a liking to the seedlings and had been happily chomping away at them.
After a quick assessment, we made the decision to pause the tree planting until we could properly protect the young trees. As we drove through the surrounding area, we realised this is actually a familiar challenge for local residents. Many of the trees we saw had protective boxes built around them to keep curious goats from turning them into an afternoon snack.
So the trees will have to wait just a little longer. We will be returning with protective boxes and plan to resume planting next week, ensuring our new trees have the best possible chance to grow and flourish.
Although the tree planting was postponed, the trip was still a fantastic one. For our Head of Marketing, it was particularly exciting, as this was her first opportunity to visit and experience the Ubuntu Eco Gardens land in person.
There is something completely different about standing on the land yourself rather than looking at plans, maps, and drawings. We spent time walking and driving through the development, getting a clearer understanding of the entrance, the road layout, the areas already allocated to clients, and the location of the future commercial zone. Seeing everything come together physically made the vision feel much more tangible.
We ended the day with one of the most enjoyable parts of the visit: meeting a local neighbour who, like many people making a new home in the area, has moved from abroad and is now part of the local community. We had a lovely conversation about the area, life in the community, and his experience of living there. His description of the surroundings as beautiful and peaceful was particularly reassuring.
For us, building Ubuntu Eco Gardens is not just about creating homes and developing land. It is about becoming part of a community and creating a place where people can live, connect, and enjoy their surroundings. Meeting the people who already call the area home gave us an even greater appreciation for what we are building.
Our trees may have been delayed by a few hungry goats, but the trip was a great reminder that development is a journey, and sometimes the best progress comes from simply being present, observing, listening, and adapting. We are looking forward to returning next week with our protective tree boxes, continuing the planting, and taking another step towards creating the green, peaceful entrance we have envisioned for Ubuntu Eco Gardens.
Follow along as Ubuntu Eco Gardens continues to grow.
